Once the decision is made to implement a virtualised tape environment, the rapid move of data to the new environment is the next key step in realising the benefits of the new infrastructure.  With the high volumes and complexity of data to migrate, it is important to manage the process effectively.

ItegraL's approach is to provide a Data Migration Service managing the process of moving data from existing physical tape to the virtual tape library for the Mainframe, AS/400 and Open Systems environments.

Benefits

This service will typically lead to lower backup costs, reduce uncontrolled growth (and expenditure) in the data centre, and provide opportunities for improving data centre operations.

Example

As backups were not completing within the required business service levels, the virtual tape library was installed and had to be rapidly deployed to deliver performance improvements.  ItegraL provided an experienced consultant who assisted with rationalizing the existing NetBackup environment into fewer, large media servers which then utilized the VTL as the backup device.  Major improvements in backup timescales were soon achieved for the Open Systems environment.
